Yorkshire ISP renames following faster fibre service
UK Fibre Networks, a successful internet service provider (ISP) in York, recently unveiled a new name for its business.
The brand title change comes as the Yorkshire company continues its mission to roll out a full fibre and gigabit-capable broadband network to around 8,000 businesses and homes in the city centre of York.
To reflect its role in increasing local broadband speeds to reach 8,000 Mbps in the following 12 months, the ISP has dubbed itself “Fastr Broadband”. The name was also selected to recall York’s renowned roots as a Viking settlement, with Fastr being the old Norse word for fast.
Powered by its dependable full-fibre network, which originally launched back in 2019, there are now hundreds of enterprises and residences within the walled northeast city connected. Through Fastr Broadband, they can now enjoy download speeds that are 452 times quicker and upload speeds that are 8,000 times swifter than other internet services currently offered in York.
Director of Fastr Broadband, Pete Evans, said that then ISP is working closely with Highways, Streetworks and Digital York to roll out their network to the city considerately. To avoid inconveniencing businesses, landlords and residents, Fastr Broadband operators often work at night, using existing connection boxes and tidying up older cabling.
The network service is now available in many prominent streets in the city including Lord Mayor’s Walk, Blake Street, Church Street, Parliament Street, Claremont Terrace, Coppergate and Coney Street, to name but a few.
