UK FTTP coverage approaches 70 per cent of premises
Internet services comparison expert Thinkbroadband recently announced that fibre to the premises (FTTP) broadband coverage here in the UK has now extended to 60 per cent of all premises.
The report highlighted that the company is now tracking more than 100 FTTP roll outs, and typically monitors the growing footprint of between six to 12 individual networks as they add to their endeavours daily.
Its most recent revision of activity has uncovered that UK roll outs have increased full fibre coverage from 68 per cent to 69 per cent.
Analysts at Thinkbroadband calculated that the increase of an extra point took 28 days to achieve. The comparison site stated that while the hike was not the swiftest point increase achieved to date, it was still a respectable effort. As such, it predicts that in 13 months’ time, the UK will still be on track to reach its goal of 85 per cent full fibre coverage.
The 10 poorest areas organised under their local authority presently range from 6.67 per cent full fibre coverage to 27.5 per cent. While this level of availability is obviously nothing to shout about, broadband users should remember that FTTP coverage at under one in every four addresses is required for areas to be listed in the worst 10 of several hundred local government authorities, showing just how far UK full fibre roll outs have now come.
Harlow District, Perth and Kinross, Warwick District and the Shetland Isles were among the 10 worst local authorities for FTTP coverage.
