Rural Wales receives reliable mobile service

Hard-to-reach towns and villages in the Welsh countryside can now benefit from more dependable and faster mobile coverage, as seven network upgrades have been activated.

An announcement from the UK Government stated that 4G mast upgrades are live in West, Southwest and North Wales, bringing reliable mobile connectivity to local businesses, residents and organisations serving the community.

The upgraded mobile coverage now mean that parts of Llanelltyd, Bontddu, Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog, Tabor, Penmaenpool, Bont Goch and Snowdonia National Park can now access faster 4G internet.

Commenting on the launch of the 4G mast upgrades, Peter Kyle, Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology said:

“From applying for jobs to staying in touch with loved ones, fast and reliable connectivity is an essential part of modern life and should be the digital reality for communities from Llandudno to Cardiff – which is why the upgrades announced today are a welcome step forward.”

He added that it is important not to forget millions of UK residents need support to navigate the modern online world. He stated that the Government is dedicated to improving digital skills regardless of where people live, and to support them in accessing vital services like internet banking and online education tools that aid their work and daily lives.

Just last year, approximately 1.5 million properties in the UK had no internet connection, making it difficult for them to access useful services like checking their bank statements and paying bills. As a result, extending connectivity to more rural parts of the country has become a key step in helping everyone get online.
