Primary full fibre rollout completes in Wokingham

Many businesses and homes in Berkshire’s market town, Wokingham, are now enjoying access to fibre to the premises (FTTP) broadband. Network specialist CityFibre recently finished its primary full-fibre rollout, part of a build project valued at £15 million.

CityFibre is making considerable progress in its efforts to deliver gigabit capable broadband infrastructure to areas around the UK. Already, its endeavours have made it possible for 4.4 million residential and commercial properties across the county to access impressive speeds of up to 5.5 gigabits per second (Gbps).

Deployment in Wokingham was initiated in late 2022. Since work started, CityFibre has put 1,211 kilometres of full fibre equipment in place, resulting in more than 19,000 premises having access. This amounts to approximately 82 per cent of homes and almost all the enterprises operating out of the market town.

CityFibre is joint owned by multiple companies including the Goldman Sachs Antin Infrastructure, Mubadala Investment and Interogo Holding, among others. Its network has the support of several internet service providers like Vodafone, Zen Internet, TalkTalk, Sky Broadband and more. However, due to deals regarding exclusivity and technical reasons, they are not all available or live in every area yet.

Although the initial build is completed, CityFibre announced that it would keep exploring fresh opportunities to get more businesses and homes connected. This includes apartments, new-build residences, Berkshire business parks and houses based on private roads out of the centre of town.

To date, CityFibre has attracted around 550,000 live customers to use the brand-new full fibre networks it has deployed.
