How to Organise Your Inbox with Gmail Filters

Do you need help configuring setting up filters in Gmail?

Step 1 Once signed into Gmail, Click the cog icon in the top right corner.

This will open the quick settings menu, Click the see all settings button.

In the settings menu, Click the Filters and Blocked Addresses item.

In the middle of the screen Click the Create a new filter text.

You will now see the conditions menu for setting up the filter; you can use individual options or all these options at once. In this example we will filter by subject text Dentist Appointment. Once you have set your filter conditions, Click Create Filter.

This menu contains the actions you can set for emails that match your filter conditions. In this example; we want to Star any emails and make sure they don’t appear in spam. Click the checkboxes so they are ticked next to these options. Once checked, Click create filter.

You will now see the filter (Email rule) appear in the list applied to all incoming emails.

You can now see the email has been starred & not sent to spam – this confirms the filter (Email rule) is correctly applying.

Again, you can see the email rule has applied as the message from Fred Jones at Chester Dental has been correctly starred.
