Broadband investment to benefit Welsh businesses

The Welsh Government’s investment in better broadband is starting to bear fruit for firms in the region.

The funding worth close to £12 million has delivered high-speed connections and dependable local broadband for enterprises operating in various communities throughout Wales. The substantial boost to Welsh broadband connectivity has transformed daily life in many areas, creating brand-new opportunities for companies to enjoy economic growth and improving public services.

Many parts of Wales have remarked on considerable improvements already. For the first time ever, three live-in care homes for adult occupants based in Newport, which include the Parklands Care Home, are now using gigabit capable fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP). This has enabled residents to stay in touch with their family members through video applications like Zoom and Skype.

Team Manager for Parklands, Sian Nicholls, commented:

“Our new broadband upgrade has revolutionised the way we deliver care, enabling advanced telecare services that significantly improve our residents’ quality of life. It’s also been a huge boost for our staff, enhancing their digital skills and making care delivery more efficient.”

Popular visitor sites like Glamorgan Heritage Coast and Cosmeston Lakes Country Park in the Vale of Glamorgan are now accessing 100Mbps high-speed broadband, while in Cardiff, 83 premises have been upgraded to a gigabyte capable service, with another 632 to follow.

Expansion of Welsh broadband continues to make progress with multiple projects in places like Neath Port Talbot, Powys, Carmarthenshire and Monmouthshire ongoing and due for completion in spring next year.
