Welsh city roads highlighted for slow broadband
Recent research by internet services comparison expert Broadband Genie has studied available speeds in Wales. As part of its analysis, it has named two roads based in the city of Newport among the slowest in the nation.
The report listed Broadmead Park in Newport as the fourth slowest for broadband in Wales, with a recorded speed of 7.23 megabits. The seven slowest street for broadband speed was also found in the city – Glasllwch Lane, which had an average of 9.39 megabits.
Broadband Genie strategist Alex Tofts spoke out, saying that broadband users shouldn’t have to cope with slow broadband at a time when most providers hike prices for customers each year.
He added, however, that the findings were based on real speed tests, stating:
“Poor broadband can be caused by various factors, such as number of devices, number of users and activity, router placement and Wi-Fi signal strength.”
Broadband Genie discovered that the nation’s fastest broadband was accessible on a street in Dinas Powys, South Wales. With recorded internet speeds of 35.81 megabits, Chamberlain Row was 323 times quicker than the broadband available on the B4570 in the Ceredigion hamlet of Ponthirwaun. Ranked as the slowest street for broadband in the whole of Wales, its poor speeds average at just 2.28 megabits.
Commenting further, Tofts recommended that broadband users who had received the same package for over two years should contact their provider, as they will likely be able to access faster internet service at lower costs.
