Telecom companies release broadband battery backup solution
Seamless internet services are critical requirements for any successful business.
Now, technology giant Vodafone, in conjunction with telecom operators Zen Internet, KCOM, and BT, have launched a compact, lightweight device delivering broadband battery backup. The solution can keep customers connected to Wi-Fi for between four and seven hours (depending on device type), if an emergency occurs like a power cut.
Although conventional battery backup solutions for Wi-Fi devices are usually too large, loud, heavy and complicated to set up, the new solution is small, light and easy to install. If a power cut happens, switching from mains power over to battery is an instant and smooth process that ensures user connectivity is never impacted.
The device was developed by Vodafone with support from Wire Technologies. It will be distributed via Vodafone without charge to customers of the company who depend on a landline. For other users, the device costs £150 to access.
Commenting on the newly launched device, Chris Bryant, UK Telecoms Minister stated:
“Innovative solutions such as Vodafone’s broadband battery backup can provide peace of mind to landline dependent customers, ensuring they don’t lose connectivity when they need it most.”
Designed to meet Ofcom regulations, the broadband backup solution also ensures landline-dependent users can stay connected to crucial services like emergency information, medical assistance and communicate with support networks for up to one hour when a loss of mains power occurs. Vodafone’s new device should far exceed this requirement, empowering customers to have between four to seven hours’ worth of additional connectivity.
