Survey reveals slowest UK streets for broadband

Independent internet comparison site Broadband Genie recently published a survey detailing the streets in Britain suffering from the slowest broadband, and those with the fastest speeds.

Bishop Auckland’s Greenfields Road took the title of slowest street, with broadband speeds averaging out to 0.35 Mb, while London’s Tynemouth Street was the speediest at 921.76 Mb.

Chiswick’s Barrowgate Road had the slowest broadband in the UK capital and placed fifth slowest overall in the survey. Outside of England, Aberdeen’s Tunberry Crescent, based in Bridge of Don, was the slowest street in Scotland for broadband, while Ponthirwaun’s B4570 was the worst in Wales. Orkney Street Antrim came last in Northern Ireland.

Broadband Genie’s survey saw its teams record and analyse more than 200,000 speed tests across the nation. Streets were ordered starting with the slowest to the fastest, and scores were founded on both broadband upload and download speeds.

Following the UK’s slowest street for broadband, second place was awarded to Northampton’s Collingdale Road at 0.47 Mb, with Reading’s Southcote Farm Lane coming in third at 0.61 Mb.

Strategist at Broadband Genie strategist Alex Tofts commented on the results:

“Broadband customers should not have to tolerate slow broadband, especially when the majority of providers continue to annually raise prices for customers.”

Overall, the survey found that UK streets had an average accessible broadband speed of around 81.97 Mb. Here in Britain, full-fibre broadband is currently on offer to 61 per cent of premises. However, this statistic falls to 46 per cent in rural and hard-to-reach parts of the country.
